As the temperatures start to rise, a perfect weekend getaway is a vineyard tour and tasting. New York State has some of the best wineries in the country, producing wines that are both delicious and unique. With over 400 wineries to choose from, it can be overwhelming trying to decide which one to visit. Here are some tips on where to go for your next vineyard adventure.
First on our list is Channing Daughters Winery located in Bridgehampton, Long Island. This winery produces wines that are made with rare grapes such as Tocai Friulano and Dornfelder that are not commonly found in New York State. The tasting room is open year-round and features different flights with four or six glasses per flight depending on how much you want to taste. On top of wine tastings, they also offer cheese boards for purchase.
Next up is Brotherhood Winery located in Washingtonville, Hudson Valley. This winery was established in 1839 and has been around ever since making it the oldest operating winery in America. They have a wide variety of wines ranging from dry reds like Cabernet Sauvignon to sweet whites like Riesling. Brotherhood offers multiple tours daily through their cellars including wine tastings along the way.
If you’re willing to travel further upstate then head over to Finger Lakes region where there’s an abundance of beautiful vineyards with scenic views overlooking waterfalls or rolling hillsides covered in vines.
One of our favorites is Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery located on Seneca Lake near Lodi Point State Park with stunning views of Seneca Lake from their tasting room porch area while sipping award-winning wines such as their famous Riesling! They also have live music events throughout the year at their outdoor stage area surrounded by lush green grassy fields filled with grapevines!
Another great option is Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards located on the east side of Seneca Lake. They have a wide variety of wines ranging from dry to sweet and even offer wine slushies! Hazlitt also offers a guided tour that takes you through their vineyards, cellar, and bottling line.
Last but not least is the Hudson-Chatham Winery located in Ghent, Columbia County. This winery produces small-batch artisanal wines made from locally grown grapes such as Seyval Blanc and Baco Noir. The tasting room is open year-round with indoor and outdoor seating available for visitors to enjoy while savoring their delicious wines.
When planning your next vineyard tour be sure to check each wineries’ website for any special events or promotions they may have going on during your visit. Also, keep in mind that some wineries require reservations so it’s always best to call ahead before making the trip.
In conclusion, New York State has no shortage of beautiful vineyards producing top-quality wines that are definitely worth trying out. Whether you’re looking for something close by or willing to travel upstate there’s something for everyone when it comes to vineyard tours and tastings. So grab a group of friends or plan a romantic getaway because nothing beats sipping wine while taking in picturesque views at one of these amazing wineries!
