New Jersey Representative Josh Gottheimer recently tweeted about the need for technological upgrades to emergency communication systems in Sussex County. Gottheimer stated that modernization is necessary to ensure that emergency response agencies can communicate with callers and first responders quickly and easily.
Sussex County, located in the northwestern part of New Jersey, has a population of approximately 140,000 people. The county’s emergency communication systems are responsible for connecting residents in need with the appropriate emergency services. These services include police, fire departments, and ambulance services.
According to Gottheimer’s tweet, many of these communication systems are outdated and require modernization. The specific technology needed was not mentioned; however, it is clear that improvements are necessary to maintain efficient communication between emergency responders and those in need.
This is not the first time concerns have been raised about Sussex County’s emergency communications system. In 2019, a report by an independent consulting firm found numerous issues with the current system, including inadequate staffing levels and outdated equipment. The report recommended upgrades to both hardware and software components of the system.
In response to these concerns, Sussex County officials have taken steps towards improvement. In 2020, they approved a contract with Motorola Solutions Inc., which will provide new radio consoles at several dispatch centers throughout the county.
While progress has been made towards improving emergency communications systems in Sussex County, it appears there is still work to be done as identified by Rep Josh Gottheimer’s tweet urging further modernization efforts for effective coordination among all parties involved during emergencies.
Overall this statement from Rep Josh Gottheimer echoes growing concern over outdated technology holding back essential services provided by Emergency Services Departments across municipalities nationwide which requires immediate attention from decision-makers at every level of government if we must maintain responsive healthcare delivery service delivery especially during emergencies on our roads or homes alike.
