Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter on Monday to weigh in on a conversation between two users regarding the future of electric vehicles. In response to a tweet from user @RyanTanaka3, who expressed skepticism about the ability of electric cars to compete with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, Musk replied “@herbertong Exactly.”
Musk’s statement appears to suggest agreement with @herbertong’s argument that electric cars will eventually surpass their gas-powered counterparts in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness. This is not the first time Musk has voiced his support for electric vehicles; he has long championed sustainable transportation options and continues to push for increased adoption of EVs through Tesla.
Despite some initial challenges, such as limited range and high upfront costs, EV sales have been steadily growing in recent years. According to a report by BloombergNEF, global EV sales are expected to reach 10 million by 2025. Many major automakers have also announced plans to shift towards producing more electric models in the coming years.
While it remains unclear exactly how quickly or completely electric cars will supplant traditional gas-powered vehicles, it is clear that leaders like Elon Musk believe they are here for good – and are only going up from here.
