On Wednesday, Ayanna Pressley, the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’s 7th congressional district, retweeted a post from MassHousing congratulating POAH Communities and Madison Park Development Corporation on the completion of Phase 2 and the start of their new affordable housing project in Flat 9 at Whittier.
The project is part of a larger effort to address Boston’s ongoing housing crisis. With rising rents and limited availability, affordable housing has become an increasingly pressing issue for residents across the city. According to a report from the Boston Foundation, nearly half of all households in Boston are considered “cost-burdened,” meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing.
In response to this crisis, local organizations like POAH Communities and Madison Park Development have taken action to create more affordable options for residents. The Flat 9 at Whittier development will provide much-needed relief by offering deeply subsidized units to eligible families.
Pressley’s tweet highlights the importance of these efforts and signals her support for increased investment in affordable housing initiatives throughout Boston. As she noted in a recent op-ed for The Boston Globe, “We need bold solutions that directly confront our broken system.” By amplifying voices like MassHousing and promoting innovative projects like Flat 9 at Whittier, Pressley is working to advance this important work both locally and nationally.
