Cruz’s statement raises questions about how the FBI has handled similar situations in the past. One notable example is their investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State. Many Republicans accused the agency of being too lenient with Clinton, while Democrats criticized them for interfering in the election by announcing they were reopening the investigation just days before voters went to the polls.
