High-speed train derailments have been a major concern in the transportation industry for decades. 1) Amagasaki Derailment

The Amagasaki derailment is considered one of the most devastating high-speed train accidents in history. On April 25, 2005, a commuter train operated by West Japan Railway Company derailed and crashed into an apartment building outside Osaka, Japan. The accident claimed the lives of 107 people and injured over 500 others.

Investigators later determined that excessive speed was the primary cause of the accident. The driver had reportedly been rushing to make up lost time after overshooting his previous station stop.

2) Santiago de Compostela Derailment

On July 24, 2013, a high-speed passenger train traveling from Madrid to Ferrol derailed near Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. The accident resulted in the deaths of 80 passengers and injuries to over 140 others.

Investigations revealed that excessive speed was once again a contributing factor as well as human error on behalf of the driver who failed to slow down before approaching a tight turn on the track.

3) Wenzhou Train Collision

The Wenzhou Train collision occurred on July 23rd,2011 when two trains collided on Yongjia Railway Line between Shanghai and Fuzhou City resulting in death tolls reaching up to forty people with almost two hundred casualties reported overall .

This particular incident saw several lapses within China’s railway safety protocols being exposed including poor management systems leading upto failures such as malfunctioning signaling equipment which ultimately led onto both trains colliding head-on at full speeds during peak hours .

4) Eschede Train Disaster

On June 3, 1998, a high-speed passenger train derailed near the town of Eschede in Germany. The accident resulted in the deaths of 101 passengers and injuries to over 100 others.

The cause of this accident was later attributed to a defective wheel which disintegrated while the train was traveling at high speeds along with poor maintenance procedures that allowed such defects to go unnoticed for long periods.

5) Shinkansen Train Derailment

On September 10, 2015, a bullet train on Japan’s Shinkansen line derailed while traveling at speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph). The incident occurred after the train collided with debris left behind by a maintenance vehicle that had been working on the tracks.

Investigators determined that excessive speed was once again a factor contributing towards this particular incident as well as issues surrounding inadequate training protocols amongst drivers operating these trains coupled with insufficient infrastructural upgrades needed for maintaining safe travel conditions overall .
