Evander Holyfield is a former professional boxer from the United States. Born on October 19, 1962, in Atmore, Alabama, he started his boxing career at the age of eight when he was introduced to the sport by his mother.

Holyfield’s amateur career was impressive. He won the Boys Club Championship twice and represented the United States at the Junior Olympics in 1983. In 1984, he qualified for the U.S. Olympic team and won a bronze medal in Los Angeles despite having an injured hand.

After turning professional in 1984, Holyfield went on to become one of the most successful boxers of all time. He held multiple world titles in two weight classes (cruiserweight and heavyweight) during his career that lasted over three decades.

One of his most memorable fights came against Mike Tyson on November 9th, 1996 when he pulled off one of boxing’s biggest upsets by defeating Tyson with an eleventh-round technical knockout. This fight became infamous for Tyson biting off part of Holyfield’s ear during their rematch on June 28th, 1997.

Despite this setback and other challenges throughout his career such as heart problems and financial issues outside of boxing, Holyfield continued to train hard and fight until retirement.

His last fight was against Brian Nielsen on May 7th, 2011 where he knocked Nielsen out in ten rounds to end his professional career with a record of forty-four wins (twenty-nine knockouts), ten losses, two draws and one no-contest.
