This technology involves recording an actor’s movements and facial expressions with sensors attached to their body and face, which are then captured by cameras and transferred onto a computer-generated character or avatar.

Motion capture performance has been used extensively in films such as Avatar, Planet of the Apes, and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It has also become a staple in the video game industry, where it is used to create realistic character animations that match voice acting performances.

One of the benefits of motion capture performance is that it allows actors to portray characters that would be impossible to achieve with traditional makeup or prosthetics. For example, Andy Serkis’ portrayal of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy was achieved through motion capture technology rather than physical makeup.
