As the Masters Tournament approaches, golf enthusiasts and casual viewers alike are eagerly anticipating the most prestigious event in the sport. The Augusta National Golf Club will host some of the best players in the world from April 8th to the 11th. I spoke with a panel of experts to discuss their predictions for this year’s tournament.
Firstly, our panel agreed that Dustin Johnson is one of the top contenders for winning The Masters this year. He is currently ranked number one in the Official World Golf Ranking and has been performing consistently well over recent years. His performance at last year’s tournament was noteworthy as he set a record by finishing at twenty-under-par (268). His experience playing on various courses also gives him an edge over other competitors who may not have had as much exposure to different courses or weather conditions.
Jordan Spieth is another player on our radar, having won The Masters back in 2015. Although his form since then hasn’t been exceptional, he recently finished fourth at Valero Texas Open and seems to be regaining his footing after a challenging few seasons.
Our panel also believes that Justin Thomas could potentially win The Masters this year as he has already secured three titles during this season – Sentry Tournament of Champions, THE PLAYERS Championship and WGC-Workday Championship- which reflects his current form and potential success at Augusta National golf course.
We cannot forget defending champion Tiger Woods who proved doubters wrong when he won last year’s tournament after coming back from injury struggles. However, unfortunately due to a recent car accident where Woods sustained injuries including multiple leg fractures and ankle injuries, it’s unlikely that we will see him compete this year.
The main challenges that these players face are navigating through Augusta National’s tough terrain effectively while maintaining composure under pressure – a challenge made even more difficult by competing without spectators due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Apart from individual performances there are several elements we’ll be watching out for during the tournament. The first is how the weather conditions will affect player performance. Augusta National Golf Club has an unpredictable climate, so golfers must be prepared for any kind of weather condition – rain or shine.
Another element to watch out for is hitting the right shot at the right moment as this course features challenging holes that require precision and strategy. For example, Hole 12, known as “Golden Bell”, is a par three hole located near Rae’s Creek which creates a challenge to golfers who have to hit over water before landing on a small green area surrounded by bunkers.
One significant change in this year’s tournament will be having limited spectators due to Covid-19 restrictions, meaning fewer fans will witness live events compared to previous years where crowds cheered players along every fairway.
The panel also discussed some notable contenders from outside of America. Jon Rahm from Spain has been consistent in his performances over recent years and could make an impact if he plays well. Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland has struggled with form recently but has had success at Augusta National before and could surprise viewers with his return to form during The Masters Tournament.
As we conclude our discussion on The Masters Tournament predictions, it’s clear that there are several factors we need to consider when making predictions about potential winners – individual performance and experience playing various courses being just two of them. But sometimes even experienced players may struggle due to unforeseen circumstances like injuries or pressure situations while performing under higher stakes than usually seen during other tournaments.
Regardless of who wins this year’s tournament – whether it be Dustin Johnson continuing his winning streak or someone else taking home their first green jacket- one thing that remains constant: The Masters Tournament never fails to deliver excitement and drama for both avid golf fans and casual viewers alike.
