Moreover, many IoT manufacturers prioritize functionality over security as they rush products into market quickly without giving proper consideration to potential risks and vulnerabilities. As a result, many consumers unknowingly purchase and use vulnerable products that expose their personal information and privacy at risk.
This vulnerability was seen in October 2016 when hackers used unprotected webcams across Europe and America to launch massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against major websites such as Twitter, Spotify and Netflix which caused widespread disruption across continents for several hours
In conclusion, it’s high time that we take this issue seriously before it’s too late.The future lies within interconnected technology but not at cost of our privacy and safety . Manufacturers must implement better standards for cybersecurity while governments should enforce stricter regulations for companies developing connected technology so that we can enjoy all its benefits without risking our digital identities or important data being breached by cyber criminals.
