Citizens United v. FEC: The Landmark Supreme Court Ruling That Changed American Politics Forever
In 2010, the Supreme Court of the United States made a controversial decision that would fundamentally alter the landscape of American politics. In a 5-4 ruling, the court held that corporations and unions have the same free speech rights as individuals under the First Amendment of the Constitution.
The case, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (FEC), centered around a conservative nonprofit organization called Citizens United that produced a critical film about Hillary Clinton during her presidential campaign in 2008.
